Construction - Steel frame and box with timber floor
Coupler - Drawhook with some being converted to Automatic coupler with transition link for attaching to both drawhook and automatic coupler wagons. The converted wagosn were reclassified as ALY-T
Buffers - Large stem

These wagons were used for general traffic and were used throughout the QR network. They have been all withdrawin since the early 1990s. Most are now used as sheds in maintenace yards or sold to the general public as same.

When the wagons were iused to carry explosives they were temporarily restencled to EALY. Towards the end of their lives some of the ALYs were also reclassifed to MALY and used exclusively by the Maintenance section of QR.
