A RCH 1923 5 Plank wagon (16ft 6ins x 8ft 0ins x 2ft 11ins). Sand deposits occur over a wide area of the UK, but mostly in river valleys. Like coal sand is found in a variety of types, one of which is particularly useful for the production of iron castings. This wagon was built by the Gloustershire Carriage & Wagon Co. in March 1929.
Note that after 1940 PO wagons were repaired using unpainted planks and would not have been seen in this condition in the 1950s and 1960s.
