4-6-0 Royal Scot Class.

For over 30 years, the Royal Scot Class was successfully employed in express work, although this was achieved through a fairly extensive rebuilding that changed many aspects of the original design. The version modelled here is known as the Rebuilt Royal Scot utilising a taper-barrel boiler and changing so many parts that only the original tenders, cabs and nameplates remained.

The Royal Scots proved their worth throughout the difficult war years in a regime of hard working and minimal maintenance and in happier times showed themselves particularly capable and able to take on any route in Britain with something to spare and more economically than the bigger and more costly 4-6-2 express locomotives of nominally greater power.

In 1933 the LMS sent a Royal Scot locomotive, temporarily renamed as THE Royal Scot, complete with rolling stock to North America for the Chicago Worlds Fair, also visiting Montreal, Denver, San Francisco and Vancouver on an 11,000 mile tour.
