CN - U2g Northern

Локомотивы класса Northern - одни из самых крупных канадских паровозов. Класс U-2 делился на 7 подклассов: A, B, C, D, E, F, G. Данный локомотив, как ясно из названия, относится к подклассу G. Каждый следующий подкласс был несколько усовершенствован по сравнению с предыдущим.

CN также известна элегантными обтекаемыми локомотивами серии U-4, но они отличались от U-2 преимущественно формой.

Этот универсальный локомотив - шедевр паровозостроения Canadian National - прекрасно справлялся как с пассажирскими, так и с грузовыми перевозками. Локомотивы этого класса появились в годы Второй мировой войны и надежно служили до самого конца эры паровых двигателей.

Многие из этих локомотивов в месяц проезжали по 16 000 миль, особенно после того, как заменили локомотивы класса K5a Hudson, которые тянули знаменитый поезд Монреаль-Виндзор. Большое тяговое усилие позволяло им перевозить более длинные пассажирские составы без потерь в скорости.

The Northern class is one of the largest steam locomotives to operate in Canada.  The U2 class had 7 different sub-classes, A,B,C,D,E,F, and G.  This is, of course, a G series.  Each letter increment made a small change to the class, a small improvement here and there.

CN also introduced the very stylish U-4 series, with all the bits hidden under the streamlined cowling.  Other than that, the U-4s were very similar to the U-2s.

Equally at home hauling passenger or freight consists, this versitile engine represents the zenith of steam technology for Canadian National.  This particular class of locomotive made its appearence during World War II, and continued reliable service until the end of the steam era.

It was not uncommon for these engines to put 16,000 miles on the odometer per month, particularly after replacing the K5a Hudson class on the famed Montreal-Windsor pool trains.  Their additional traction power allowed them to haul longer passenger consists while retaining the high speed passengers expected.

6213, which was used as a pictorial reference for the model, currently resides at Exhibition Place, Toronto ON.  It is hoped one day this marvellous iron horse will be fully restored to operating condition.

CN provozovala i velice stylovou řadu U-4, vybavenou aerodynamickým vnějším pláštěm. Kromě toho je však U-4 velice podobná U-2.

Tato univerzální lokomotiva je stejně vhodná k přepravě cestujících i nákladu a je vrcholem parní technologie u Canadian National. Tato konkrétní lokomotiva byla vyrobena během Druhé světové války a spolehlivě sloužila až do konce parní éry.

Pro tyto stroje nebylo ničím neobvyklým, aby během měsíce najezdily 16 000 mil, zvláště poté, co nahradily řadu K5a Hudson na slavných vlacích Montreal – Windsdor. Díky své větší trakční síle mohly vozit delší soupravy a přitom si udržet tak vysokou rychlost, jakou cestující očekávali.

Lokomotiva číslo 6213, která byla vzorem pro tento model, se v současnosti nachází v Exhibition Place v Torontu v Ontariu. Lze doufat, že snad jednoho dne bude tento nádherný ocelový oř rekonstruován do plně provozního stavu.

Klasa Northern jest jedną z największych lokomotyw wykorzystywanych na terenie Kanady. Klasa U2 składała się z 7 różnych podklas, A, B, C, D, E, F i G. To jest oczywiście seria G. Każda litera odpowiadała niewielkim zmianom wprowadzonym do danej klasy.

CN wprowadziło również bardzo stylową serię U-4, której wszystkie elementy były ukryte pod pokrywą silnika. Oprócz tego jednostki U-4 były bardzo podobne do jednostek U-2.

Sprawdzający się doskonale zarówno przy przewozie pasażerów jak i ładunków towarowych wszechstronny silnik reprezentuje szczyt osiągnięć technologii parowej kolei Canadian National.
