in 1941 the US Goverment ordered over 3000 troop cars to
after entering the second world war. The vast majority of these were sleepers but there was also
kitchen cars and later on hospital cars. After the war many of these cars found new lives on the
railroads being used as baggage cars, express mail cars, and even a caboose. Today many of these
cars are preserved all over the United States. Some of which are used in regular tourist service.
This one is painted for the Monon railroad after it was rebuilt into a baggage car.
