Train formation: DMCO-MSO-PTSO-DMCO
The class 477/6 came about in 2007 when Hayden Trains, needing to replace its inherited fleet of life expired slam-door stock, leased 10 class 477/1 units from Sussex Rail (477101-110), converting them to dual voltage and reclassifying them as class 477/6. The units performed admirably operating fast and semi-fast suburban and regional services out of Hayden King Street, and the decision was made to procure more of the units for deployment across its core routes, and another 76 units were ordered from W.E.N TT.
The original 10 ex-Sussex units entered service with Hayden Trains in an interim livery, with the Hayden Trains logo applied to the side of the Sussex Rail livery.
In 2009, when the remaining 76 units entered service they were repainted and internally refitted into Hayden Trains' Red&Green standard livery to match the new units.
In 2011, the units went through a light refresh, and were repainted into a darker, more angular Mainline (2011) livery, as Hayden Trains decided to split its rail operations into the Local and Mainline brands.
In 2012, 477649, 650, 651 and 655 were painted into a special Olympic livery to commemorate the 2012 Olympic Games, and named after British Olympians. These names were not retained when the units were returned to the standard livery.
In 2014, several (but not all) of the units were again refurbished, more extensively this time, with Hayden Trains' restructuring. This resulted in them losing their first class areas, receiving a complete interior refit and the new Hayden Trains Mainline (2014) livery.
Finally in 2015, Hayden Trains rolled out another branding change, bringing all three sections under a single unified design - the 'Unity' scheme. The 477/6s were again repainted into the Mainline variant (HTMU), and this is the livery they still carry.
