This asset is based on the CNR 21,000-gallon Fuel Oil Service Tank manufactured by Vulcan Iron and Engineering of Winnipeg. The tanks were situated on service tracks at division points along the western lines.
The insulated tanks were kept filled with heated oil, either from nearby bulk storage tanks or, in smaller locations, by tank cars operating on a scheduled fuel delivery service. Pumps were situated below the service tank over an oil collection sump. Heating was supplied by the shop boiler house.
