In the year 1997, Samsoe Linien ApS who opperated on the ferry route Hov (Jutland) and Saelvig (Samso) was taking over the route between Kolby Kaas (Samso) and Kalundborg (Zealand). Due to that they only had 2 smaller ferries Sam-Sine which was capable to only take 36 cars and 248 pax and Vesborg which was capable to take 74 cars and 450 pax. But during the time when Samsoe Linien had taken over the former DSB (Danish States Railways) ferry route Kalundborg - Kolby Kaas, they decided that the only ferry that was capable for the rute was Vesborg. During the year 1997 that meant alot of overwork for their smallest ferry Sam-Sine which was now too small for the Jutland route alone. So in 1997 the company decided to built a bigger ferry, which was based on few edits on the technical drawing of Vesborg. They changed the length from 53.800m to 69.299m but the width was kept remaining the 14.800m.
The plan was clear, and they used the same shipyard that built Vesborg which was Oerskov Staalskibsvaerft in Friderikshavn in Denmark. In the year 1998 in December the ferry which was named Kyholm, was ready for service at Samsoe Linien who had changed from ApS to A/S. This also meant that the ferry Vesborg could get back on the Justland route service along with Sam-Sine. But due to few delays at the rebuilt of the ferry dock in Kolby Kaas, that meant that the new ferry had to depart from Saelvig as it was built for Vesborg, then so could Kyholm dock in there.
In the year 1999 at February, the dock in Kolby Kaas was ready, and Kyholm could now depart from there to Kalundborg at Zealand. The following years from 1999 until 2008 the company meant well, and Kyholm had few departs from Kolby Kaas to Hov in Jutland outside its main route. That all changed in 2008. The company had lost the competitive bedding on the Jutland route (Hov - Saelvig) and was best bid by the company Nordic Ferry Services, who bought the Ferry Vesborg and decided to move it to Kolby Kaas - Hov route as they was rubuilting the dock in Saelvig for a much bigger ferry.
Although Samsoe Linien lost the Jutland route in 2008, they still had the Zealand route utnil 2009 and the Ferry Kyholm. That all changed when they decided to hand over the Zealand route to the same company who now opperated on the Jutland route. They also sold the ferry Kyholm to Nordic Ferry Services and sold Sam-Sine to another company further south to Aero in Denmark,m the company is named AeroeFaergerne.
The follwing years besides few slip-ups from the new Greece built ferry, they kept a good service. However the ferry Vesborg was less used, and was kept remaining as an reserve ferry for the Zealand route. Then in 2010, the company moved Vesborg to one of their other routes bit south from the Great Belt Bridge, at the Langeland route and was kept there until 2011 were it returned back to Samso due to a bigger ferry was built for that route as well.
2010 meant new company name from Nordic Ferry Services to Danske Faerger A/S with the Samso route was named SamsoeFaergen and still main office of Danske Faerge was kept on Bornholm. Then 2011 meant goodbye for Vesborg, and was sold to a northern Danish company named Laeso Faergen.
Kyholm was still kept in service at the Samso - Zealand route and still had few trips to Justland. that all ended in 2015. A new kommunal ferry had taken over the route Hov - Saelvig with a new ferry, which then the Danske Faerger had decided to move the ferry they used at the Jutland route to a new Zealand route which was now Ballen (Samso) to Kalundborg. From then Kyholm was going through a renovation and was renamed to Fynshav and moved to yet another route that Danske Faerger owned which was Fynhav (Als) - Bojden (Funen) also known as AlsFaergen. It now opperate the Als - Funen route with an old nd much smaller ferry named Frigg Sydfyen. And for a little surprise the former Sam-Sine which was renamed to Skjoldnaes also docks in at Fynshav.
