The #453 is a K-27 Class Mikado locomotive built in 1903 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philidelphia, PA. The K-27's were affectionately referred to as 'Mudhens' due to their unfortunate tendancy to derail when they first went into service. The #453 started its service with the D&RGW RR. And for all of her life she ran the narrow gauge lines in Southwestern Colorado. In the late 40's the Rio Grande Southern began to lease locomotives from the D&RGW to replace the outdated steam power in their own stable. The #453 made many a run over Lizard Head Pass for the RGS. At the end of the line the #453 was dismantled on July 30, 1954. This model features the rare occurance of a doghouse on the K-27 tender. Also, this version is featured as a yard swithcher.
