For a time, Durango and Silverton, former Rio Grande K-35 Mikado used a Pennsylvania Railroad 3 chime whistle. The whistle used by 480 sounded different from the whistles used on PRR locomotives such as K4s 1361. It originates from 'Lines West,' a division of the Pennsy that encompassed all trackage west of Pittsburgh.
