A bin for loading sand to locomotives. This is an interactive industry asset that can be re-filled with dry sand from a wagon and transfer sand to the sand queues of locomotives.
At minor loco depots in NSW labour-saving sanding systems were not justified. Instead, dry sand was delivered from the nearest major depot and stored in various types of vessel. The most basic vessel was a ground-level box with a hinged lid. The sand was scooped out of the bin into a jug or scoop which was carried to the loco sand container and poured in.
There are no fixed tracks. Instead the user must place a trackmark on 1 or 2 tracks that pass near the bin. Adjust the trigger radii of the trackmarks to 10m. It is advisable to use a scenery sign next to each trackmark (for example, <kuid:368725:40025> 'industry track mark position sign') so that the player can see where to stop the loco or sand wagon for interaction with the sand bin.
Given the localised name of the sand bin is 'myName', the trackmarks must be named <myName> + '-mark-1' and <myName> + '-mark-2'. '-mark-1' allows unloading a wagon to the bin as well as loading a loco from the bin, so it should be located as close as possible to the front of the bin. '-mark-2' allows loading a loco from the bin only.
For the correct wagon side door to open when unloading sand to the bin, the '-mark-1' trackmark must point towards the end of the bin where the lid has its handle.
The bin's lid is animated. It will open whenever the bin is being loaded or unloaded. An animated load inside the bin indicates the amount of sand held by the bin.
