Created to complement the Edinburgh- Berwick section of ECML route built by tmz06003. This impressive Railway Hotel is situated adjacent to Edinburgh Waverley Station and was opened as the North British Hotel on 15 October 1902 by the North British Railway Company. It was privatised in 1983 and then became part of the Gleneagles hotel Company. A major 3 year refurbishment was commenced in 1988 and included stone cleaning which changed the external appearance considerably as it had significantly weathered over the years, particularly blackened by soot from the station. Re-opening was on 12 June 1991 and the Hotel was renamed the Balmoral. The Hotel changed hands again in 1997 and is now owned by Rocco Forte Hotels and bears their logo on two elevations.
