Scottish Buildings Series Tenement Buildings Collection Auld Reid Stane Closie Three Flair Stairtower /Old Red Stone Tenement Three Storey Stairtower
External stairtowers are a defining characteristic of older Scottish buildings of three storeys or above: not just lowly tenements, but luxurious family houses and even larger edifices - castles being the obvious example. Usually with half-round backs (though not necessarily with spiral staircases) they were generally the sole access to the landings on each floor, and also housed the communal privies.
An optional extra for the three storey tenement unit, this stairtower should be placed centrally at the rear, as per the screenshot. (You might also notice from this image that while there's no specific dedicated rear garden unit for the closies, back greens/yards can be made from my cobbled street and wall splines; there are two new ones specifically for the purpose - SBS CSS & SBS ARS WS 6).
