West Highland Railway Crianlarich Temporary Station Building
When built, Crianlarich was furnished with a standard pattern WHR 'chalet-type' building. Unfortunately it was destroyed by fire in the 1960s, just at the point when the station was to take on extra importance as a junction due to the diversion of all Oban services via the WHR with the closure of the Callander and Oban line through Glen Ogle. Although the Refreshment Rooms survived the fire, they could only provide limited services for general passengers, and this temporary unit, utilitarian, unprepossessing and out of keeping with the environnment (but cheap and serviceable) acted as a stop-gap for nearly thirty years, until a new shelter and convenience block was commissioned, honouring the original design by being a cross between it and the signal cabins.
