Railway crossing warning signal of the DR;

The warning signal So 16 is placed in the braking distance in front of level crossings and shows the driver by the signals So16a and So16b whether the level crossing in front is secured. The signal term So16a means that the level crossing is secured and passable. It is indicated by a white light. If there is no white light after passing the switch-on contact, it means So16b. In this case the locomotive driver has to stop in front of the level crossing, because it can be assumed that the level crossing is not secured.
Signals like the So16 are only used for train-operated crossings. This means that the level crossing is not operated by a signal box or similar, but is usually operated by passing over a switch-on contact in the track.

You are invited to use this library to build warning signals for other systems. Let me know if something should be added or changed in this library.

Das Ueberwachungssignal So 16 wird im Bremswegabstand vor Bahnuebergaengen aufgestellt und zeigt ueber die Signalbegriffe So16a und So16b dem Lokfuehrer an, ob der vorrausliegende Bahnuebergang gesichert ist. Der Signalbegriff So16a bedeutet, dass der Bahnuebergang gesichert und somit befahrbar ist. Er wird durch ein weisses Licht angezeigt. Leuchtet nach Ueberfahren des Einschaltkontaktes kein weisses Licht, bedeutet das So16b. Hierbei muss der Lokfuehrer vor dem Bahnuebergang halten, da davon auszugehen ist, dass der Bahnuebergang nicht gesichert ist.
Ueberwachungssignale, wie das So16, werden ausschliesslich bei zugbedienten Bahnuebergaengen verwendet. D.h. dass der Bahnuebergang nicht von einem Stellwerk oder dergleichen bedient wird, sondern die Bedienung in der Regel durch das Ueberfahren eines Einschaltkontaktes im Gleis durchgefuehrt wird.
