Commonwealth Railways First Class Sleeper ARD -
In 1952 the Commonwealth Railways imported two nine car passenger consists from
Wegmann in West Germany, for use on their Trans LIne between Kalgoorlie
and Port Pirie. The consist of each train (from the rear) was: first class
sleeper-observation car-ARF, two first class sleeping cars-ARD, lounge car-AFA, dining car-DC,
second class sleeper/lounge-BRF,two second class sleeping cars-BRB, and combination brake/power van-HRGA.
The total weight of the nine cars was approximately 440 tons.
The ARD is a first class sleeping car, with accommodation for 18 people in nine two bert cabins.
