Baltimore & Ohio operated 249 freight GP9's - originally #675-696, renumbered 6425-6446 in 1957, plus #6447-6598, plus #6599, a GP18M wreck rebuild of a GP9 - and 25 freight GP7's - originally #910-922 and #720-731, later renumbered #6400-6424 in 1957 and renumbered 5600-5624 in 1974. Most lasted into the 1980's despite years of hard use in all kinds of service. Many received Chessie colors.
