In 1964 the Victorian Railways built some large Louvre Van's as Prototypes for a new design of high capacity Van and where classified as VHX with a total of 20 built, in 1972 another 50 where built at Ballarat Workshops with lightened frames, 4 feet longer and classified as VSX becoming the largest Van Victoria had built, these where used all over Australia going on to Standard Gauge at Albury and into New South Wales, Broad Gauge into South Australia and bogie exchanged at Adelaide going into Western Australia, the design was so successful another 2 where built March 1973 then another 198 where built from April 1974 till 1976 at Ballarat Workshops. From 1979 some where recoded VLEY to remove them out of the bogie exchange to be used for Freight Centre Traffic, from late 1981 most where recoded back to VLEX with a few still in service as VLEY till early 1983 with the last being coded back to VLEX, a few of the VLEY and VLEX where recoded VLNX in 1981 for Standard Gauge News Print Traffc between Ettamogah, NSW and North Dynon, Vic. The only time they where on the Broad Gauge was for maintanence at North Melbourne Workshops or North Bendigo Workshops. From 1986 they where painted V/Line at Ballaarat Workshops and in 1994 the VLNX where recoded to RLNX handing over the rollingstock to National Rail Corperation and in 1997 they where recoded once again back to VLNX and placed in Broad Gauge Storage around Melbourne and Bendigo until 2003.

I've built this group generic as the 4 digit VLEX have slighty longer class boards.

On DLS their is a route created by Grazlash (ARTC NSW - VR North East), this rollingstock is usable on it, several kilometres north out of Albury their is a container depot with goods sidings (Ettamogah) the RLNX only went between there and Melbourne.

In 1991 number 12 was fitted with plain doors.


This model represents the Type 2 VLEX numbered 878, 950, 946, 928, 1048, 876, 1001, 927, 943, 996, 1031, 975, 860 and 905 recoded to RLNX and renumbered 10, 11, 13 and 15 to 25 from 1994 to 1997 on Standard Gauge, Steps created by Zec.
