Victorian Railways N Class Mikado was built at Newport Workshops 1925/28 numbers 110-129, another 10 was built from 1930/31 with numbers 130-139, this e-spec is set up for Early Coal Burning.

The N Class had a superior heating surface over the C and K Class and could maintain high boiler pressure while working hard however they couldn't stay at Working Pressure for long and would drop. Like the K Class they also had a speed limit of 45mph on the Mainline until WWII and they where permitted to run Passenger trains at 50 mph on the mainline with branchline Passenger trains still limited to 45mph, and 40mph for Mixed and Goods, N Class mostly saw service on light branchlines with 60lb/y rail as the they had a axle load of 13 tons 10cwt and could pull 297tons on the common 1in40 Grades.

When asending Grades the Regulator should be 100% and cut-off close to mid gear to keep steam-chest up to pressure 'I use 37% cut-off with schedule load of 145%'. In the event of stalling the load should be recalculated and Tender water also be counted to the total Train weight. When going down Grades the cut-off must be full gear and regulator open slightly to prevent cylinder back pressure, the fire will cool when coal drops 70% and lower also with water level 80~90% sight glass, injecting water into the boiler in large amounts at a time will also pop safeties because adding water to a close vessel also add pressure.

SAVE THE COAL: The use of the Blower should be to clear the black smoke and while at a stand still, the use of the blower while working is a waste of steam and fuel as the smokebox draft already acts like a blower.

DCC is setup to go beyond 50mph for a reason, TS12 has DCC max speed set in Cab mode and you could still run regulator 100% without speeding up on steep down grade and defeats the purpose of using the brakes, increasing the DCC max speed solves this problem but also allows people to run beyond recommended speed, this e-spec is set up for 50mph! and must not go any faster or safety valves will stick, the real locomotives mainly run 45mph between 1925~1941.
