This is a single track multi-span iron bridge that crossed the Missouri River at Plattsmouth, Nebraska.
The Burlingtom & Missouri River railroad started this bridge in 1879 but by the time it was completed in 1880 they had
merged with the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad and this became the Nebraska Division of the CB&Q. This bridge is
about 3000 ft long. The through trusses may look a bit mis-porportioned (too tall for the width) but from an engineering
standpoint they are correct. There is an engineering rule-of-thumb that says the length of a truss briodge can not be more
then 9 times the height of a single truss section. These thru trusses are 400 ft long so the truss section height must be at
least 44 ft high. These are 50 ft high. This item was made from drawings, diagrams, and text which originally appeared in
the 1880 edition of the Railroad Gazette.
